Vishay Intertechnology, Inc is broadening its optoelectronics portfolio with the release of two new series of 4-pin, low input current optocouplers with phototransistor output. The devices feature low DC input currents of 1 mA (VOS618A) and 5 mA (VOS617A) and are offered in the compact SSOP-4 mini-flat package, which saves more than 60 % of board space compared with a DIP-4 package.
VOS618A and VOS617A series optocouplers are designed for isolated feedback loops, I/O isolation, and isolation in switch-mode power supplies, AC adapters, motor drives, solar inverters, networking switches, telecom line cards, and home appliances. The devices protect equipment users from electrical shocks and protect the microprocessors within these systems from being damaged by voltage spikes.

To provide designers with increased flexibility, the half-pitch mini-flat VOS618A and VOS617A series offer a variety of current transfer ratio (CTR) ranges from 40 % to 600 %. The devices, also known as opto-isolators, feature a GaAs infrared emitting diode, which is optically coupled to a silicon planar phototransistor detector. Their SSOP-4 package provides a 3750 VRMS isolation voltage rating, a half lead pitch of 1.27 mm (50 mils), package height of 2 mm, and creepage and clearance distance of ≥ 5 mm.

The new series of optocouplers are molded using an eco-friendly green compound, and they are compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. They are certified to UL, CSA, VDE, FIMKO, and CQC safety standards.

Samples and production quantities of the new optocouplers are available now, with standard lead times of four to six weeks.
