Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced a new high-accuracy, highly integrated LED driver that incorporates sixteen channel constant-current outputs. Ideal for LED panel displays requiring brightness consistency across multiple LEDs, the TC62D776 maintains constant currents of between 1.5mA and 90mA. High-accuracy control is guaranteed as a result of channel-to-channel and IC-to-IC output tolerances of ±1.5%.
The new IC operates from a supply voltage of between 3.0V and 5.5V and is rated for output voltages up to 17V. Current can be adjusted in 128 steps, with a serial data transfer rate of up to 25MHz ensuring very high-speed LED control.

The device requires minimum external components. Current is controlled by a single external resistor, while integrated functionality includes thermal shutdown, automatic error detection (output open and output short - OOD and OSD) and power-on-reset (PoR). In addition an output delay capability allows a short delay to be incorporated between channels. This prevents the possibility of overcurrent conditions when all LEDs are switched on simultaneously.

Incorporating CMOS-compatible I/O interfaces the TC62D776 can accommodate input signal voltage levels of 3.3V and 5.0V. The IC is pin-compatible with other members of Toshiba’s constant current LED driver family and is available in options of 24-pin SSOP, HTSSOP24 and QSOP packages.

Designed for optimum efficiency, the new driver features a standby current consumption of just 1µA.
