Mouser now stocks the Vishay VEML6070 UV light sensor
Mouser Electronics is now stocking the VEML6070 UV light sensor from Vishay Intertechnology. The device is an advanced, CMOS UV light sensor with an I2C protocol interface and high dynamic detection resolution. With an integrated signal conditioning IC, photodiode, amplifiers, and analogue/digital circuits in a single chip, the VEML6070 provides excellent measurement in a small 2.35x1.8x1.0mm package, which makes it suitable for applications such as handheld devices, wearables and health and fitness devices.
The light sensor, available from Mouser Electronics, contains an 8-bit command register written via the I2C bus. All operations can be controlled by the command register, with a simple command structure that enables engineers to easily program the operation setting and latch the light data from the VEML6070. The device offers 16-bit resolution to convert solar UV light intensity to digital data, and includes an active acknowledge feature that allows it to transmit UV index alerts based on programmable thresholds.
The light sensor operates on a supply voltage of 2.7 to 5.5V with typical current ratings of 250µA and 1µA. The VEML6070 detects the entire spectrum of UVA and UVB wavelengths, with a typical sensitivity of 5µW/cm2/step and a maximum detection of 328mW/cm2. The device is compliant to RoHS directive 2002/95/EC, free of halogens, and compatible with lead-free soldering. The light sensor is suitable for a variety of mobile, lighting and sensor applications, including smartphones, digital cameras, industrial devices and displays.
