Infrared LEDs employ Nanostack technology
The new SFH 4715AS and SFH 4716AS infrared LEDs (IREDs), part of the IR OSLON Black family from Osram Opto Semiconductors are now being shipped by Mouser Electronics. These small infrared LEDs improve on previous generations of OSLON Black SFH 471x IREDs, increasing output to over 1Watt. The SFH 471xAS IREDs are built on an optimised package and Nanostack technology, in which each chip has two emission layers.
Depending on the type of camera and number of infrared light emitting diodes, the SFH 471xAS can provide illumination over a distance of more than 328 feet (100 meters), which make them ideal IR light sources for many camera-based applications.
The IREDs come in a small 3.85 mm2 package with an integrated lens that allows superior compact arrangements of very high power density. The LEDs have a low thermal resistance of 9 K/W (max), a centroid wavelength of 850nm and a typical optical power that reaches 1.34 W with 42 percent efficiency at 1A.
With beam angles of 90 degrees (SFH 4715AS) or 150 degrees (SFH 4715AS) and reduced cooling requirements, the LEDs efficiently deliver high output power while requiring fewer components, saving cost and board space.
With their extended output and range, the SFH 471xAS IREDs provide efficient infrared light for surveilance, gesture recognition and machine vision systems.
