Designing a SSL linear fixture that exceeds linear fluorescent performance, is cost competitive, and satisfies Energy Star performance criteria requires a system level design approach. By this, we mean that all four system level elements, LED selection, Secondary Optics, SSL Driver Selection/Performance, and Thermal Management must be taken into consideration. NXP, Cree, and Brightview teamed up to design an Under-Cabinet SSL fixture that exceeded linear fluorescent performance, while keeping cost low and satisfying Energy Star performance targets.
The LED task light utilizes either 5 Cree XP-E or 5 MX-6 LEDs driven by the NXP SSL2101 mains LED driver.
The output is set at 6W and delivers approximately 307 lumens without the diffuser. With a Bright View
diffuser installed the task light produces approximately 261 lumens which is a significant achievement
and speaks to the superiority of Bright View’s diffuser technology. The equivalent fluorescent light had a
lumen output through the diffuser of 201 lumens for 8W of power.
