Automotive MCU sales to surge 23% in 2021 despite shortages according to the Mid-Year Update report. 32-bit designs are expected to generate almost 77% of automotive microcontroller revenues this year, said the Mid-Year Update report. The huge market for automotive microcontrollers, which accounted for about 40% of total MCU sales over the last decade, has been on an uneven ride in the past several years.  After climbing 12% in 2017, worldwide automotive MCU sales slowed to a crawl in 2018, rising just one percent.  A borderline global recession stalled demand for new vehicles in 2019, and then came the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus pandemic, which wrecked the worldwide economy in 2020.

CalcuQuote to better connect PCB Manufacturing with PCB Assembly
Read more
CalcuQuote was started with the mission of creating a fast, accurate and efficient quoting process for the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) industry. The primary problem to solve for a long time was sourcing components on the Bill of Material (BOM). Thanks to the work of industry leaders, it is now easier than ever to quickly source the components on your BOM. API-based transactions, adopted by the industry’s largest suppliers, have enabled near instant response for BOMs with hundreds of part numbers.

Understanding new connectors for led-based lighting
Read more
Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have revolutionised indoor and outdoor lighting. The efficiency, controllability, colour spectrum, thermal performance, and unique form factors of this solid-state lighting (SSL) technology have helped sideline the venerable Edison incandescent bulb (as well as the fluorescent, metal halide, or sodium vapour lamps). Rolf Horn of Digi-Key Electronics explains the role of new connectors.

Driving forward with automatic EV charging
Read more
According to Next Green Car, there were over 535,000 plug-in electric and hybrid car models on UK roads in May 2021. As the ban on new diesel engines approaches, we’ll soon all be swapping gas for electricity. But bulky cables and charging infrastructure could cause a nuisance on our streets. So, should we start exploring other electric vehicle (EV) charging options? Here, Stewart Goulding, Managing Director of planetary gearhead supplier EMS, explores the role drive systems could play in EV charging.
