Honeywell's sensing element design consists of four piezo resistors on a chemically etched silicon diaphragm. A pressure change will cause a strain in the diaphragm and the buried resistors. The resistor values will change in proportion to the stress applied, which produces an electrical output. Honeywell's sensors are performing in potential applications including dialysis equipment and oxygen gas distribution.

Whether it’s improving the efficiency of a combustion engine or designing electric vehicles (EVs) or hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), electrification is powering a massive evolution of the powertrain as we know it. This white paper examines the future of powertrain sensors through the electrification of a vehicle in internal combustion engines (ICEs) and sensors in EVs and HEVs, and their importance in optimizing the powertrain for effectively managing the battery, inverter and motor building blocks.

Automotive architectures are rapidly evolving with a trend towards semi-autonomous and eventually fully-autonomous vehicles. Automotive manufacturers are also including a variety of features such as smart access, car sharing, predictive maintenance, vehicle tracking, fleet management and over-the-air (OTA) updates to enhance connectivity and in-vehicle communication. These advanced features generate an ever increasing amount of data which need to be processed, by a high performance processor, and communicated securely and safely across interfaces such as CAN, LIN and higherspeed networks, such as Ethernet. As a result, car manufacturers are reevaluating the architecture of automotive gateway and telematics control unit systems.

Pickering Electronics has announced that it has developed a miniature high voltage relay for use in a new test rig, designed by ON Semiconductor. In switching systems for test and measurement applications, reed relays are often the best solution thanks to their small size, high isolation resistance, hermetically sealed contacts, fast operate time and long-life expectancy.

The modern world is going hands-free, as more people spend less time tapping keyboards and moving pointing devices, and increasingly more time using digital audio-visual communication tools. In addition, the trend for the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to a proliferation of connected devices that render digital information accessible in a more user-friendly format. Here, David Brooke has shared a low cost development hack for voice codecs in Pi.
