Digi-Key at Embedded World 2022 with Taoglas
At Embedded World 2022, on the Digi-key booth, Paige West speaks with Sam McCarthy, Head of EMEA Sales, Taoglas about navigation and positioning system applications as well as the launch of the company's Antenna & Cable builders within Digikey.
Serving IoT applications with antenna solutions
Traditionally in all applications of high precision GNSS, you need a larger antenna however the problem is traditionally ceramic. Ceramic has a couple of disadvantages in that it is heavy and fragile. Taoglas created its own material, terrablast to withstand more impact than traditional ceramic.
Also, the integration and placement of the antenna is extremely important which can be difficult for those who don’t know the ins and outs of the performance they need for high precision.
Overcoming challenges when delivering IoT solutions
Taoglas tries to provide as much information online as possible, with some of its specification sheets being 30+ pages. It has also provided measurements at different ground planes so the customer can see the influence the size of their product will have on the performance of the antenna. This is extremely important for the US, where Taoglas has a huge amount of experience and certification for cellular performance. With three R&D labs across the US: San Diego, Florida and Minneapolis, this is what Taoglas deals with day in day out for the consumer.
Pain points associated with custom designs and ordering
Pain points for custom design essentially all revolve around size. The pain points the platform will eliminate is through communicating all the data and testing it has carried out. By having R&D centres located close to the customers, it is able to get their products and test them in their chambers, a controlled environment, as well as in the field, showing actual live data.
