Digi-Key at electronica 2022 with Schurter
At electronica 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Caroline Hayes speaks with Herbert Blum, Product Manager at Schurter about new products from the company at the show.
Schurter had two completely new things to demonstrate at the show – one was green products and the other was smart products.
“Green products are connectors, fuse holders, fuses, and all kinds of passive components. These components come based on plastic and metal parts,” said Blum. “Now we launched a new series with, instead of oil-based plastic, plant based plastic material. The good thing is, they contain all of the [necessary] approvals.”
At the beginning, it was quite difficult for the company to get the plastic material ready because it was not certified.
“We spent the time to be the first on the market with green connectors and green fuse holders,” notes Blum.
Regarding the smart products, Blum refers to what they call the smart connector.
“Smart connectors means that the connector (it’s an IC connector, so for power entry) has sensors and communication modules inside so it can actually monitor your voltage current. You can get an app to see the data and control the unit via your mobile. The data is then linked via a Wi-Fi connection,” said Blum.
