Samsung CEO passes away at 63

Han Jong-Hee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, passed away on 25th March 2025 at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest. ​

Han joined Samsung Electronics in 1988, dedicating over 37 years to the company. He played a pivotal role in advancing Samsung's television division, leading to the development of LED TVs and securing the company's position as the world's leading TV manufacturer. In 2022, Han was appointed Vice Chairman and CEO, overseeing the consumer electronics and mobile devices divisions. ​

During his tenure, Han focused on integrating AI and IoT technologies into Samsung's product lineup, aiming to enhance user experiences and maintain the company's competitive edge. He also championed sustainability initiatives, advocating for eco-friendly manufacturing practices and products. Despite these efforts, Samsung faced challenges in the semiconductor sector, with competitors gaining ground in advanced chip-making technologies. ​

Following Han's passing, Co-CEO Jun Young-Hyun, who leads Samsung's semiconductor division, has assumed the role of sole CEO. The company is navigating a complex landscape, addressing competition in the semiconductor market and seeking to bolster its position through strategic investments and innovation. ​

Han Jong-Hee's legacy is marked by his dedication to technological advancement and his role in transforming Samsung into a global leader in consumer electronics. His contributions have had a lasting impact on the industry, and he is survived by his wife and three children. ​
