Molex expands European operations with new campus
Molex, a global specialist in electronics and connectivity, has expanded its manufacturing footprint with the opening of a new campus in Katowice, Poland.
The initial phase of the facility spans 23,000 square metres, positioning Molex to efficiently deliver advanced medical devices for Phillips-Medisize, a Molex company, as well as electric vehicle and electrification solutions for its customers. Plans for future expansion of the facility up to 85,000 square metres are part of Molex's growth strategy in Poland, adding to its existing sites in Rokitki and Sulęcin.
Paul Chaffin, Phillips-Medisize SVP and President of Molex Medical and Pharma Solutions, commented: “The Katowice campus will expand our European footprint, providing our pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and medtech customers with new capabilities and the expert support they need to bring innovative new products to market.”
Molex has invested $110 million in these facilities, which will initially support Phillips-Medisize in the production of pharmaceutical, medical, and diagnostic devices. The site will feature advanced capabilities, including medical device assembly, packaging, drug handling, and injection moulding. Additionally, it will manufacture interconnect battery solutions for electric vehicles and busbar solutions for Molex’s electrification business.
The Katowice site will complement Phillips-Medisize's existing operations across six European manufacturing sites. The large pool of skilled manufacturing and engineering resources in the Katowice area was a key factor in Molex's site selection. At full capacity, the campus will employ approximately 350 employees, including production operators, design engineers, and quality specialists.
The campus will be the first site for both Molex and Phillips-Medisize to hold a LEED Gold certification. ISO 13485 certification is pending completion of construction, with additional certifications to follow.
