G28: embedded high-performance computer
duagon has introduced the G28, a 3U CompactPCI Serial CPU board featuring the 11th generation Intel Core and Intel Xeon W-11000E Series processors/ Tiger Lake-H CPUs.
With up to 8 cores and up to 64 GB RAM, the single board computer is well suited for high-end embedded computing rail onboard, rail wayside, the medical and critical automation industry. Optional 10 Gb Ethernet interfaces allow for high data throughput and direct connection to the network backbone. Fully qualified products of the G28 will be available from September.
One of the key benefits of the G28 is its scalability. In terms of memory configuration, up to 64 GB DDR4 DRAM with ECC is supported. It is soldered to the board, the components are underfilled and additionally coated to guarantee optimum shock and vibration resistance and durability against harsh environmental conditions. Additionally, the CPU scalability from 25W to 45W TDP and 4 to 8 cores allows operation in ambient temperatures of up to +85°C with active cooling. Thus, with only one rugged, single computing platform different environmental conditions and market applications can be covered.
As for rail onboard markets, the G28 is used as central maintenance and virtualization platform and main computing unit for passenger Wi-Fi and internet access. As part of a rail wayside server system, the single board computer is used for condition monitoring. Whereas in medical applications, the G28 offers reliable computing performance for e.g., surgical robots and factory automation, motion control and robotics in industrial automation.
Security and board management
Since another key aspect of embedded computing is system security, a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0) is assembled on the G28 to provide support for remote device authentication, measured boot, and secure updates. In addition, an independent Board Management Controller (BMC) monitors onboard voltages, current and temperature and performs dedicated tasks like external watchdog management, power supply control and reset handling.
Standard interfaces
For I/O connections, the G28 features three RJ45 or two M12 Ethernet front connectors, one USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 connector and one USB-C connector for one USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 and one DisplayPort. Main backplane interfaces include four SATA (6 Gb), eight PCIe 3.0 root ports with various lane configurations x1, x4, x8, and two 1 Gb Ethernet ports.
Future-proof embedded computing
Supported operating systems include Linux Yocto Project distributions, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise 64-bit as well as real-time operating systems that support Intel®'s multi-core architecture. Long-term availability of the components of minimum ten years ensures an extended product life and future safety. The G28 is backwards compatible to the predecessor products G25, G25A and G23.
