This year, Electronic Specifier, along with its sister publications IoT Insider and Startups Magazine, was invited to cover COMPUTEX 2024 in Taipei, Taiwan. Established in 1981, COMPUTEX is a major global event showcasing the latest in computing technologies.

Arriving at the opening keynote half an hour early, the escalators were already closed to the general public, directing them to the live stream instead. This year's event is expected to host over 30,000 CEOs, professionals, and 1,000 journalists from around the world, contributing to a packed atmosphere for the first talk.

As the room filled, the keynote began by highlighting the use of AI to create the background music and several images on the slides. Following an introductory video tracing the evolution of technology from the abacus to AI, James Huang, Chairman of TAITRA, took the stage. He provided context on the show's growth and outlined what to expect in 2024. He described COMPUTEX as the "gateway to the future of computing technology," focusing on six key themes this year:

  1. AI Computing
  2. Future Mobility
  3. Advanced Connectivity
  4. Immersive Reality
  5. Sustainability
  6. Innovations

In addition to the main show, InnoVEX is co-hosted, featuring over 500 startup teams from more than 30 regions, with a strong emphasis on Green Tech, EV, and over 100 AI-led startups. Huang described this segment as the "innovation hub of Asia," where startups can explore partnerships and present potentially game-changing solutions. Coverage from InnoVEX will be featured in Startups Magazine throughout the week, with InnoVEX officially opening on 4th June 2024.

The opening keynote was delivered by Dr. Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD, titled 'The Future of High-Performance Computing in the AI Era'. Dr. Su highlighted AMD's advancements in AI and high-performance computing, discussing how AMD is pushing the boundaries from data centres to Edge devices and end-user solutions, including the following major announcements and innovations that AMD is bringing to COMPUTEX 2024:

  • New Ryzen 9000 desktop processors with the fastest single-core performance

  • Third generation Ryzen AI notebook processors with improved AI performance and capabilities

  • Preview of the upcoming 'Turin' datacenter CPU with significantly higher performance

  • Roadmaps for upcoming GPU accelerators to deliver higher AI performance

COMPUTEX provides a platform for AMD and many others in the industry to showcase new products and discuss the future of technology with the global ecosystem of developers, OEMs, and media. This year's event promises to be a significant milestone in the tech industry's ongoing development, reflecting the rapid advancements and growing importance of AI-driven solutions.
