The EMC community bounces back at EMC and Compliance International

The free, two day exhibition gave the industry’s professionals and companies the chance to meet face-to-face, network and discover the latest innovations. The exhibition also featured workshops and guest talks led by experts in EMC and compliance.

EMC and Compliance International 2022 featured 30 exhibitors, made up of experts on topics such as new EMC directives, test equipment and the latest EMC modelling software. Notable exhibitors included Wurth Elektronik, HITEK, Castle Microwave, Lambda, REO UK, Kiwa Electrical Compliance, NTD and Cherry Clough Consultants. Exhibitors took the chance to showcase their latest innovative products and solutions at the show, and many of them commented on the busy atmosphere and positive feeling over the two days.

One of this year’s exhibitors, Peter Davenport, field sales engineer at Lambda, commented: “This is my first time at the show and the best thing about it was getting the chance to showcase our company, our products and hear from the industry and see what it is doing. We have had a lot of great opportunities and spoken to new customers that we would not have otherwise spoken to about how we can help them enhance what they can do as an offering to their customers. The number of leads that we have gotten is fantastic and the show has more than paid for itself.”

Another exhibitor at the show, Glen Wallis, technical director at Wurth Elektronik, added: “It is nice to be back at the home of EMC and Compliance. We have not been here since 2015 and it is great to see some familiar faces, and it’s also great to see some new faces coming through too.”

The exhibition also included a full programme of EMC technical and training workshops, featuring guest speakers such as Dai Davis, partner at Percy Crow Davis & Co, and Professor Dave Thomas from Nottingham University. Keith Armstrong, along with other associates of Cherry Clough, also provided training workshops on subjects such as suppressing electrostatic discharge (ESD) and how to calibrate and use a network analyser. Keith has had many years of experience with EMC, having been a member of the IEEE EMC Society since 1997 and having been the UK representative on the IEC teams for IEC61000-1-2 (on EMC & Functional Safety) and IEC60601-1-2 (on EMC for Medical Devices).

One of the show’s delegates, Andy Degraeve added: “EMC and Compliance International is a very interesting conference because it is very practical with very experienced, professional speakers in attendance. More than just academic research, it is what I like to call real life, real world EMC. It is great to be here to talk and connect with people, and I think it is a great event to attend.”

On the evening of the first day of EMC and Compliance International, the IEEE EMC Society’s UK & Northern Ireland Chapter ran a free event on ‘The nuts and bolts of UKCA and UKNI marking’, in conjunction with the EMC Test Labs Association. This was another opportunity for exhibitors and visitors to network with industry experts and share their knowledge.

This was the first live event for EMC & Compliance International in seven years after a successful virtual event in 2021. Following the success of 2022’s event, EMC and Compliance International will return to Newbury in 2023 and registration is now open for the show.
