Edinburgh Research and Innovation, the commercialisation arm of The University of Edinburgh, has announced a new AIMday (The Academic Industry Meeting) for companies looking to find an innovative solution to challenges around sensors and signal processing.

AIMday in Sensors & Signal Processing, the fifth in the series of unique collaborative events, will be held on 7th October 2015 at the University’s King’s Buildings Campus. This is the first time that AIMday has looked at the topic of Sensors & Signal Processing, a key area of expertise at the University.

The event will focus on challenges and problems faced by companies across different sectors. The topic will allow companies to access the strength and depth of expertise at the University of Edinburgh in this area.

Academic experts across the University, work within this area and their knowledge can be of particular benefit to those companies within wearable technology, environmental sensing, security & defence, oil & gas, healthcare, medical diagnostics, imaging and bio-sensors.

Thea Ni Lionnain, ERI’s Commercial Relations Executive, said: “The announcement of an AIMday focused on the topic of Sensors & Signal Processing is great news for Edinburgh as it coincides with increased emphasis on this sector within Scotland, which generates over £2.5bn to the economy. Companies and suppliers within this sector are increasingly looking to R&D to extend their existing products and to reach into new markets. This AIMday event will provide a source of innovative and multi-disciplinary thinking to companies who rapidly need to meet the latest challenges in the market place.”

The AIMday format is unique, one question, one hour and a group of academic experts discuss several pathways to a solution for the question posed by the company. The events are already proving successful in establishing collaborations and identifying new solutions to challenges facing industry today.
