Demystifying EMC, hosted by Rohde & Schwarz, returns to the Silverstone conference venue in Northamptonshire, UK on April 2. This year, the popular event focused on electromagnetic compatibility is covering aspects including legislation, test techniques, and design knowledge.

Lee Hill of Silent Solutions will start the day looking at a troubleshooting project to make a coffee machine produce less radiated emissions, and create a better user experience in an interactive session titled: Would You Like Some EMI With Your Coffee?

The day will continue with three separate streams that allows attendees to configure their day choosing from a wide range of subjects. Stream one will begin with a description of how to design for EMC using common laboratory equipment, co-presented by Rohde & Schwarz and Würth Electronics UK.

Three further sessions will describe automotive testing for electrified components and whole vehicles with Luke Turnbull and Mason Sheppard of Applus 3C Test; EMI receiver selection when configuring a test instrument with Rohde & Schwarz; and best practices for grounding and shielding with Min Zhang of Mach 1 Design.

Arturo Mediano from the University of Zaragoza returns for his second time at Demystifying EMC and will start stream two by demonstrating EMI debugging with oscilloscopes and probes.

Three subsequent presentations will look at the EMC issues surrounding wireless power transfer with Steve Hayes, Element Materials Technology; the economics of ensuring compliance by James Pawson, Unit 3 Compliance; and CISPR and ANSI measurement methods and test specifications for signals in the ultra-high-frequency 18-40MHz range with Martin Wiles of MVG.

In stream three, Dimitrios Barrakos of Comtest will describe how reverberation testing can help the car industry handle the EMC challenges presented by next-generation vehicles; Rohde & Schwarz will look at testing and certification of medical devices.

Bennet Boeker of AVL List will discuss dynamic vehicle testing under real driving conditions. Rohde & Schwarz will complete the stream with a presentation focusing on Full-Vehicle OTA antenna testing, including insights into major challenges and some practical examples.

Closing the day with the keynote speech, Claire Bate, Assessment Manager at United Kingdom Accreditation Service, will highlight the ways technological changes influence EMC regulations and preview the challenges engineers will face in the future.

“Demystifying EMC returns to deliver more each year as a learning experience, workshop, networking opportunity, and exhibition. As the industry develops so does the content, topics and program, to stay up-to-date, relevant and informative,” said Nathan Reeve, EMC Product Specialist at Rohde & Schwarz UK Ltd. “All attending are assured of a warm welcome as the community around this event continues to grow.”
