Omron Electronic Components Europe is set to showcase a range of innovative solutions aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing energy losses in EV charging, electricity storage systems (ESS), and solar applications at the smarter E Europe Exhibition 2024.

The exhibition will be held in Munich from 19-21 June 2024, focusing on "Accelerating Integrated Energy Solutions." Omron will be presenting its latest developments at stand B6.680.

Key highlights at the stand will include the G9KC PCB power relay for AC wall boxes, designed for 3-phase EV charging installations. This relay boasts extremely low contact resistance, guaranteeing 6 milliohms in normal operation and 1 milliohm in optimal conditions, compared to 10 milliohms in other products. This reduction in contact resistance minimises heat within the wall box, improving charging speed and reducing strain on electronic components. Its high-power density also allows for more compact mode 3 wall box designs.

Omron will also demonstrate the B5L Time of Flight (ToF) sensor and its application in EV charging stations. ToF devices can simultaneously capture multiple scenes to accurately determine surrounding objects, enabling robots to navigate around obstacles. Omron has developed an algorithm for EV charging plug recognition, enabling fully automated robotic connection between vehicle and charger. The B5L sensor’s high light immunity makes it suitable for various conditions and more cost-effective than equivalent 2D and 3D LiDAR technologies.

The G9KB-E, a high voltage 800V 50A DC relay, will also be on display. This relay is designed for high-capacity household electricity storage systems, achieving both DC switching control and safe cut-off with a single relay. Its bidirectional (no polar) switching capability reduces the number of relays required per system. The relay employs arc cut-off technology for safe high-capacity DC cut-off, with 3D arc simulation technology optimising the arc cut-off process, resulting in a compact design with enhanced safety. Other notable exhibits include the G7L-X DC relay for wall boxes, the G9KA-E high power relay for DC fast chargers, and the G9KB-E for DC switching.

For ESS applications, Omron will feature the latest addition to its G9EC family of DC power relays, the G9EC-X1. This relay can switch 1 kV 100A DC loads and withstand a continuous carry current of 200A at 85°C, with very low contact resistance.

In the solar PV sector, Omron will present the G9KA-E 300A PCB power relay, developed to meet the demands of decentralised systems and increasing PV inverter capacities. This relay’s ultra-low contact resistance of 0.2mΩ suppresses heat generation and minimises losses, improving overall power generation efficiency.

Additionally, Omron will introduce a new weather sensor designed for energy infrastructure. This sensor is easy to install and maintain, providing advanced sensing of wind direction, wind velocity, rainfall, temperature, humidity, pressure, and light, aiding detailed weather forecasting for solar plants and wind farms.
