The name says it all: MT-CONNECT is the new sector platform for medical technology. The trade fair held by NürnbergMesse in co-operation with the honorary sponsor, Forum MedTech Pharma e.V., brings together all the sub-sectors involved in the development and manufacture of medical products.

It will be held for the first time on 21 and 22 June 2017 in Nuremberg and will link up there for the first time with the concentrated medical technology expertise of the European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg (EMN). “MT-CONNECT will become the platform for manufacturers, supplying and service companies along with research and educational institutes in the medical technology sector. With this step, we are creating a healthy innovation platform for the qualified exchange in this technology sector”, announced Dr. Roland Fleck and Peter Ottmann, CEOs of the NürnbergMesse Group, in connection with the MedTech Summit on 15 June in Nuremberg.

In order to stage MT-CONNECT, NürnbergMesse and Forum MedTech Pharma e.V. are extending their existing cooperation. Up to now the largest network for the health sector in Germany and Europe has staged the MedTech Summit every two years in Nuremberg. On 21 and 22 June 2017, parallel to the congress, MT-CONNECT will be held for the first time. “Since 2008 we have been working hand in hand within the framework of our congress. Now we are extending this cooperation and combining our specialist know-how with the exhibition and trade fair expertise of the NürnbergMesse Group”, is how Dr. Thomas Feigl, Managing Director, Forum MedTech Pharma, describes the cooperation.

MT-CONNECT is being supported by an advisory board of top-ranking experts, which reflects the concentrated specialist expertise of the medical products sector. Among others, the participants come from the following organizations:

  • BVMed – Bundesverband Medizintechnologie (German Medical Technology Association), Berlin
  • Forum MedTech Pharma, Nuremberg
  • IVAM – Fachverband für Mikrotechnik (Microtechnology Network), Dortmund
  • Medical Valley EMN, Erlangen
  • Siemens Healthineers, Erlangen
  • ZVEI Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustrie (German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association), Frankfurt

The medical technology sector is quite simply one of the future markets. According to the report on the sector structure by Forum MedTech Pharma, the current volume of turnover in the European medical technology market is around €85bn. For the world market, experts assume a total of around €220bn – with a rising tendency.

“In Nuremberg, MT-CONNECT is coming together with a broad spectrum of regularly-held congresses, for example in the areas of ophthalmology, surgery, anaesthetics and arthroscopy”, explain Fleck and Ottmann. “Together with the technology lead in the Medical Valley EMN1 an ideal constellation is being produced. In Nuremberg visitors are provided with an overview of the entire medical technology sector, which makes MT-CONNECT a format with great future potential.”

The range of products and services presented at MT-CONNECT covers suppliers, manufacturers, research institutes and service-providers from the sectors of electronics, micro-technology, IT and software, metal working, plastics and ceramics-processing, material and surface technology, mechanical engineering, production processes and, ultimately, the complete manufacture of medical products.

What is also particularly attractive for exhibitors and visitors is the spatial proximity of MT-CONNECT to numerous innovative companies in the Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg. Here, in what is a unique concentration of manufacturers, research and educational institutes as well as clinics and service-providers throughout Germany, around 180 dedicated medical technology companies employ more than 16,000 people. This is complemented by outstanding expertise in key medical sector technologies such as electronics and micro-system technology, information and communication technology along with optical technologies and material research.
