Free Power & Sensors forums set for Cambridge & Oxford
The free Power & Sensors technical forums for engineers, organised by Motiv8 Forums, will be staged in Cambridge, Thursday 15th October at the Moller Centre, and in Oxford, Tuesday 20th October, at the Williams F1 Conference in Grove. Delegates at both Forums will have the chance to win an Apple Watch. These technical gatherings are free to attend, and include parking, wifi, breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
Technologies to be discussed at the Forums cover Power, Power Management, Sensors, Sensor Technologies, IoT, M2M, Wearable Technologies. Each day follows a proven structure perfected over the last 6 years - breakfast and networking. The morning is taken up with technical presentations after lunch there is a choice of Technical Workshops. There is a technical exhibition area where delegates can network. And at the Oxford venue there is the opportunity to view the Williams F1 museum and drive the F1 simulator.
Companies attending include Future Electronics, Vicor, Coilcraft, Wurth Elektronik, Outsource Electronics, Yokogawa, AR UK, Rutronik, Linear Technology, Texas Instruments, Microchip, Infineon, LPRS and Gemalto.
At the Cambridge event the Vicor will open proceedings presenting a paper titled Using Zero Voltage Switching Techniques to maintain better step-down converter efficiency, even with high input voltage. The paper will explore the Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) Buck topology; explaining the purpose of the clamp switch and how ZVS uses parasitic circuit elements, that are a nuisance in traditional PWM designs, as an integral part of its operation. A comparison between the ZVS and traditional PWM switching waveforms will be presented.
Power Inductor Selection with Red Expertis thetopic of a presentation by Wurth Electronics. It will look at how to select Power inductors for the three common topologies; Buck, Boast and SEPIC using Wurth Electronics latest on-line selection and calculation tools with the most accurate losses calculations based on measured data.
Gemalto will talk on the subject of Bridging Between Sensors and the IoT.
The afternoon Technical Workshops will feature Vicor looking at Theory to Reality: Designing Real World Power Supplies. There should be no difference between theory and reality, but there usually is… This workshop explores the route through design tools and evaluation boards, making use of current sharing and interleaving to create real world designs.
Enabling a Sensor Application to the IoT is a Workshop where Gemalto will demonstrate an approach for a rapid development of an example application connecting sensors to the IoT using an Application Enablement Platform.
A packed morning at the Oxford event will be opened by Microchip presenting on Flexible power monitoring solutions for AC/DC power supplies.
Digital Power Conversion: Exploring Digital Control using Infineon`s XMC family of ARM Microcontrollers is the title of a paper from Infineon.
Vicor, Gemalto and Wurth Electronics will talko on the topics presented at the Cambridge event.
Rutronik has joined the Technical Workshop roster in Oxford looking at LED Driver Topologies and How (NOT) to Design an LED Driver.
Vicor and Gemalto will also participate in the afternoon Technical Workshops.
