London Technology Week: how talent is driving growth in the UK economy
London Technology Week is looking at how technical talent can help to secure business growth. The UK’s digital tech industries are growing faster than the rest of the economy, at a rate of 32%, with an estimated turnover of £161bn in 2014. As 41% of digital tech jobs exist in non-digital industries, the opportunity is there for all businesses to power growth through these skills.
Farida Gibbs, CEO and Founder of Gibbs S3, comments: “Technology is powering the UK economy, with London being the epicentre of British innovation. Businesses across all sectors can capitalise on this, as these digital skillsets help to transform the traditional enterprise landscape. There is a digital skills shortage, which needs to be addressed to ensure that London has the talent pipeline to continue its position as the technology capital of Europe. Securing the right skills and expertise can be difficult in a competitive market. Businesses should consider staffing approaches that go beyond traditional forms of recruitment, by looking for a hybrid approach, which offers project consultancy.
“With this, businesses can get the best of both worlds, and a method that offers businesses the flexibility to scale up or down, depending on project demands. This is key to ensuring that the right skills are available on demand, helping companies secure growth for their future. As it is the talent that is helping to power growth, businesses should look for the most flexible approaches to securing the skillsets that will enable them to embrace game changing technology.”
