Kontron's new industrial PC at embedded world 2025
Kontron is presenting two powerful industrial PCs at embedded world in Nuremberg, the new KBox B-203-RPL and KBox B-204-RPL, based on the mITX motherboard designed and manufactured in Germany, which supports 14th Generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9 processors.
This enables compute-intensive performance-hungry applications such as high-end image processing, artificial intelligence or machine learning to be realised. An Intel 300 desktop processor is also available for less demanding applications. A new mechanical concept focussing on flexibility and cost-effectiveness enables easy integration into customer-specific systems and devices, such as modern control consoles or complex laboratory and diagnostic equipment.
The industrial-grade KBox B-203-RPL and KBox B-204-RPL systems have been specially designed for performance-hungry applications in an industrial environment. At the heart of the industrial PCs, alongside the Intel 300 processor, are the high-performance Intel Core i3/i5/i7/i9 processors of the 14th generation with up to 24 cores (8-Performance Cores and 16-Efficient Cores), which are based on the Intel Performance Hybrid Architecture. These processors are characterised by impressive computing power and thus form the basis for demanding real-time applications, machine learning or the processing of large amounts of data.
However, the KBox B series from Kontron not only impresses with its high computing power, but also with its versatile expandability, compact design and low noise level (“whisper quiet operation”). This is made possible by a special cooling concept developed by Kontron, which allows powerful desktop CPUs to be operated at an extremely low noise level.
Fast NVMe SSDs with up to 4 TByte are used for mass storage. The KBox B-204-RPL also offers an easily accessible drive bay, allowing a 2.5-inch SSD and a 3.5-inch HDD or two M.2 SSDs (RAID 1) to be integrated, enabling a maximum storage expansion of up to 20 TByte.
For even more flexibility, the KBox B-204-RPL offers one or two PCIe slots (1x PCIe x16 or 2x PCIe x8). This allows network cards with up to 10 GbE or PCIe graphics cards to be integrated.
With two GbE ports, including one with up to 2.5 GbE, and ten USB ports (including USB-C), KBox B-203-RPL and KBox B-204-RPL ensure high data throughput and connectivity. In addition, both systems have four DisplayPorts and a serial interface and, with an input voltage of 24 VDC or 230 VAC, are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. Fast wireless connections via WiFi 6 are also possible.
The new industrial PCs are versatile and space-saving thanks to their compact design and various mounting options. Customised adaptions can be implemented quickly and without design risk thanks to the modular design.
The first samples of the new KBox B-203-RPL and KBox B-204-RPL will be available from February 2025.
