After a packed seminar and technical workshop at the recent CWIEME Berlin exhibition, leading electric motor design expert Jim Hendershot will be bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to CWIEME Shanghai. On the 23rd June in the spotlight seminar area, Mr. Hendershot will presenting on the subject of efficient motor design. On the 24th June, he will be answering all visitors’ questions on the subject of generator design and application.

One subject that Jim Hendershot expects to recur among visitors’ questions at CWIEME Shanghai is the use of rare earth permanent magnets. Many members of the electric motor manufacturing community in Europe and North America, especially those in the automotive sector, are carrying out extensive research into reducing or even eliminating rare earth magnets from HEV motors.

Practically speaking, however, Mr. Hendershot still believes that rare earth permanent magnets are the number one choice and continues to recommend them in his international consultancy work. This should come as a great comfort to the many Chinese permanent magnet suppliers exhibiting at CWIEME Shanghai.

“Mr. Hendershot is quite a celebrity in the motor world and offers such practical and international insights,” says Chloe Theobald, Content Manager, CWIEME. “Indeed, many of the speakers at the recent CWIEME Berlin show thanked me for giving them the opportunity to meet him, while visitors were queuing up to pick his brains. Mr. Hendershot’s forthcoming seminar and workshop will undoubtedly be among the highlights at CWIEME Shanghai.”

“A couple of large front-end loaders use switched-reluctance wheel motors and some large dump trucks and dozers use AC induction motors for traction, as well as newer forklift trucks. But all major HEV currently in production use rare earth permanent magnet synchronous traction motors,” Mr Hendershot says.
