Highlights from FRAMOS Image Sensor Tech Days

A team of Japanese developers working at Sony were a major highlight for the participants attending the event in Munich. Sony is the largest producer of sensors and held many events including a live presentation of its latest sensor models from the third CMOS generation which gave end customers an opportunity to take part in a live Q&A session and pose their questions to the experts on hand.

The other leading sensor manufacturers, Teledyne e2v and ON Semiconductor, were also present to show their latest product ranges and innovations, such as the Emerald series and the newest EMCCD sensors. Their experts were also available to provide answers in extensive presentation and networking sessions.

“We are very proud to have created such a successful platform for exchanging ideas between manufacturers and developers”, says FRAMOS CEO Dr. Andreas Franz. “The positive feedback received has encouraged us to continue expanding the Image Sensor Tech Days".

"Next year’s event will be even larger and focus in detail on the technical innovations of our partners and our own experts, as well as live demonstrations to answer some of the issues facing our customers in their day-to-day work. We look forward to 2018.”

The talks about equipping sensors (WEPTECH) and the need for appropriate lenses were especially popular and were presented by engineers from the Japanese firm, Computar. Sunex spoke about the potential of lens-side HDR optimisation, while experts from FRAMOS went into detail about preventing color errors and distortions, as well as the latest findings from the FRAMOS EMVA laboratory.

The in-depth presentation on the dilemma faced by every camera developer – the question of build vs. buy and the criteria involved – delivered by FRAMOS’ Darren Bessette stimulated some lively debate and inspired many of the developers present to delve further into the issue.

During the closing section aimed at the future, Dr. Christoph Scheubel spoke about the potential of deep learning and the opportunities for using sensors and intelligent algorithms to launch a new age in image processing.

“The opportunity to network with colleagues throughout the industry and engage directly with experts from major manufacturers has made these two days very interesting. I've been able to bring answers back to the company to solve a range of key issues, which is an enormous help".

"Next year I’ll be bringing another couple of colleagues with me,” concluded one of the satisfied attendees. The 2018 FRAMOS Image Sensor Tech Days are being planned for next Spring.
