From 19th to 21st September, international experts will meet in Graz to exchange views on the future of battery technology. The conference is organised by VARTA and Fraunhofer IKTS.

In September, the Austrian town of Graz will once again become a think tank for the battery industry. The motto of this year's ‘Graz Battery Days’ in the capital of Styria is: ‘Tools to tackle the challenges of lithium-ion battery technology’.

The event is dedicated to the exchange of knowledge among international experts in energy storage, including representatives from the Helmholz Institute in Münster, the University of Cambridge, Carl Zeiss Microscopy of University College London, but of course also VARTA Innovation from Graz, a subsidiary of VARTA AG.

But it's not just about pure lectures, as Stefan Koller, Managing Director of VARTA Innovation, says: "We have a distinct workshop character here. We have an excellent panel of speakers from both academia and industry, and the contact between the audience and the speakers is always intensive at the Graz Battery Days, which is also what we want. The special thing about and the difference to classic conferences is that we really have a narrow technical focus. We discuss one main topic intensively. This year, it is about the question of how we can make the properties of future battery systems measurable, but also about important parameters in cell production. It's about making properties tangible and measurable that are still hidden today, and that will become important for the further development of lithium-ion technology in the future.

“Ultimately, it is about the battery of the future”, Koller continues.

The managing director expects around 100 guests at the fourth edition of the conference, which is now taking place in Graz for the first time since 2020 due to corona.
