At the upcoming European Microwave Week (EuMW), held from 22-27 September in Paris, dSPACE will debut a cutting-edge test solution designed for high-precision separation and interference testing of automotive radar sensors.

This innovative system enables previously time-consuming tests to be conducted in a controlled lab environment, accelerating the development of reliable and safe advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which increasingly rely on radar technology.

This new solution enhances the Essential 2D Radar Test Bench by introducing the capability for reproducible angle separation tests. A rail system facilitates the easy integration of two DARTS front ends, which can be moved relative to one another. Using the proven DARTS technology, featuring the world’s most compact RF front ends, users can configure two monostatic systems with exceptional simulation quality. The DARTS 9040-GT is particularly well-suited for this, as it enables the simulation of two radar targets from varying angles.

The rising number of radar sensors in vehicles raises concerns around sensor immunity, particularly regarding interference from signals emitted by different sensors on the same vehicle or from other vehicles. This test solution, showcased at EuMW, addresses such issues by superimposing the radar echo with signals from an interfering radar. The DARTS 9040-G, which operates across the entire frequency range of 76 to 81 GHz, captures the interfering radar signal and relays it to the DARTS 9040-GT for testing the radar system under examination.

"The setup makes it easy to investigate the separation capability of high-resolution automotive radar sensors and their interference behavior," said Christian Schäfers, Product Manager at dSPACE. "Both the separation tests and interference tests can be carried out as black-box tests, as no information about the radar sensors is required."

Additionally, dSPACE will showcase further advancements of the DARTS technology, including high-precision testing for dynamic driving scenarios, 60 GHz radars, and environment simulation, as well as software-in-the-loop testing of ADAS functions.
