Clarion Defence and Security has introduced the committee for the DSEI Japan conference. DSEI Japan will feature a three-day conference running alongside the exhibition, featuring premium content and internationally respected speakers.

Led by conference chairman, Masanori Nishi-san, Former Administrative Vice-Minister of Defence, the conference will consider the key issues faced by the countries of the Asia-Pacific region as they work to promote stabilisation and cooperation between nations.

“DSEI Japan 2019 is the first important occasion for the Japanese defence industry to establish business relations with foreign partners,” Nishi-san said. “There has been no such event in the past that provides the opportunity and occasion for Japanese companies, particularly medium and small size enterprises, to meet so many potential foreign partners regarding future cooperation over three important days.”

The conference committee has been carefully selected from Japan’s leading military, academic and research organisations, and includes:

  • Committee Vice Chairman, Shigeru Iwasaki-san, Former Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, Japan Air Self-Defence Force.
  • Junichi Nishiyama-san, Senior Research Fellow, Japan’s Institute for Future Engineering.
  • Kyoji Inoue-san, Retired Major General of the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force.
  • Hideaki Watanabe-san, Former Commissioner of Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency, Ministry of Defence.
  • Jeffrey A. Bloom, President, Bloom Pacific.
  • Richard Thornley, Vice President Japan, Clarion Events.

The conference agenda is currently being finalised and will feature speakers addressing regional capabilities, requirements and solutions, based around core themes over the three days:

Day 1: ‘Freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region: maintaining and enhancing free and open maritime order’, and ‘Preparing with Crisis Management and Security for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games’.

Day 2: ‘Combating threats of the new era: measures against space, cyber and electronic warfare’, ‘Responding to airborne threats: strengthening air and missile defence capabilities’, and ‘Technologies and overseas transfer of defence equipment’.

Day 3: ‘Trade Management: Import/export management’, and ‘Preparing for a large-scale disaster that will occur in the future’.

“The DSEI Japan executive committee are proud to announce that there will be more than 250 companies in our unrivalled exhibition, as well as high level seminars and conference sessions for current security topics, held every day with great panellists and speakers in addition to private spaces for business discussions to be arranged,” Nishi-san added. “This is the first initiative to globally promote the outstanding Japanese defence industry and we will maintain and grow this effort in the future.”

The conference is free to attend for military and government professionals. DSEI Japan will take place 18th to 20th November 2019 in Makuhari Messe, Japan.
