Connectors and accessories for Defence and Security at DSEI 2019
At this year’s Defence & Security Equipment International Event (DSEI), Lane Electronics will demonstrate its electrical, electronic and optical connector systems for this demanding sector. Lane Electronics is an assembling and value add distributor for many of the industry’s leading manufacturers including Souriau, HUBER+SUHNER, Positronic, Nicomatic, HellermannTyton and sister Lodge Group circular connector manufacturer Weald Electronics.
Together, these specialists manufacture connectors and connector accessories that meet the requirements of industry standards such as MIL-DTL-5015, MIL-DTL-26482 and MIL-DTL-38999. Many examples of approved connector systems will be on display along with several new products including a range of backshells for MIL-DTL-38999 Series III and MIL-DTL-26482 connectors.
8D/38999
As an assembling distributor for Souriau, Lane Electronics will display a range of circular connectors that meet the requirements of MIL-DTL-38999. These are high density connectors available in several shell materials including aluminium, composite, marine bronze and stainless steel. Depending on the application, Lane Electronics can supply these 8D/38999 connectors in different finishes including RoHS compliant, black Zinc Nickel and Zinc Cobalt plating.
These 8D/38999 connectors come as standard with a variety of contact types although Lane Electronics can also assemble custom connectors that incorporate signal, power, high power, coax, triax, quadrax and Elio fibre optic contacts from its substantial stock profile of Souriau 38999 products and piece parts.
Souriau’s Elio high-performance fibre optic system is designed for use where high data rates are important while at the same time providing resistance to difficult environments. Its impressive optical performance makes it capable of dealing with data speeds up to several Gbit/s. Lane Electronics offers a fibre optic assembly service with simplex or duplex cables terminated with Elio to Elio, Elio to LC or SC contacts - or any combination. These are then mated with 8D Series / MIL-DTL-38999 style connectors, back shells and heat shrink boots.
MIL-DTL-26482
Weald Electronics has earned an enviable reputation for its high performance circular connectors which are used extensively across the military and aerospace sectors. It is one of a handful of connector manufacturers to build products in the UK.
Weald’s LMH series of bayonet locking connectors is available in a variety of shell sizes and styles as well as several contact arrangements. These are designed specifically to meet the requirements of MIL-DTL-26482 Series 1 and Patt 105 andhave also been approved to IECQ-CECC spec BS/CECC 75201-003 and BS 9522 F0017.
Rugged RJ45 connector system
Recently announced by Lane Electronics is a rugged RJ45 connector system for applications where totally reliable Ethernet communications are needed in harsh environments. The RJ45 connector system is designed to meet the requirements of VG95234 and is a cost effective solution compared to D38999 versions and more rugged than those developed to meet MIL-DTL-26482. The system comprises a panel mount receptacle and a male plug connector and, when mated, provides protection to IP67. The connector system is designed to be used with shielded Cat6A cables and features internal grounding.
As well as these MIL-Spec circular connector systems, Lane Electronics will be highlighting HUBER+SUHNER’s extensive RF communicationsproducts including cabling and connectors as well as lightning and EMP protectors. Using its extensive
stockholding of connectors and cabling, Lane Electronics can supply cable assemblies in standard lengths or built to order as required. These are high performance cable assemblies produced using HUBER+SUHNER’s flexible, armoured, semi-rigid and hand formable RF assemblies capable of working to 18GHz.
A recently introduced service allows Lane Electronics to provide customers with high performance RF cable assemblies based around HUBER+SUHNER’s Enviroflex and SPUMA coaxial cables. Here, the cable and cable assemblies are available in any length from just a metre and with no minimum order quantity (MOQ). This makes them perfect for evaluation, trials, prototyping and low volume production runs.
Other products on display will include heat shrink shapes and tubing products from HellermannTyton and a series of crimp and D-Subminiature connector systems from Nicomatic. Rack and panel and D-Subminiature connectors from Positronic complete the DSEI product offering. Positronic’s Optik-D is an ARINC 801 conforming fibre-optic connector for users who need to terminate optical cable in harsh or challenging environments. Designed to be used with the company’s Combo D-Subminiature family, Optik-D connectors are said to be more cost effective than D38999 or ARINC 600-based systems and are compatible with ARINC 801 products from other manufacturers. The Optik-D connector features an ultra-low insertion loss figure of just 0.06 dB (typical).
