Cobots, cybersecurity and last mile logistics at the IOT Solutions World Congress Testbed Area
Robots prepared to better collaborate with humans, solutions to transform urban last mile logistics and security systems developed for medical devices and connected cars. These are some of the projects featured at the Testbed Area of IOT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC), the event focused on industry transformation through disruptive technologies organised by Fira de Barcelona in partnership with the Industry IOT Consortium (IIC).
Held at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue from January 31st to February 2nd, the event will display testbeds showing how the most advanced and innovative technologies will transform companies and how products are manufactured, and services provided.
Changing the paradigm of robots, from automation to collaboration, is the goal of PAL Robotics’ testbed. The current trends in collaborative robotics ask for efforts in human-robot interaction that allow for the easy and safe handling of robots in the shop floor. This testbed shows the teleoperation of the arm of PAL Robotics’ TIAGo robot in a way that it can detect external disturbances such as obstacles.
Cybersecurity has become a key element of every company and that is particularly true in several industries such as Healthcare and Automotive. Irdeto will showcase a healthcare specific cybersecurity platform that combines on-device detection capabilities with a cloud platform that proactively identifies software vulnerabilities, manages the product lifecycle and provides rapid mitigation measures. Likewise, the connected car also poses many challenges and to stress the importance of airtight security, Siemens is showcasing a vehicle hacking simulation that features various hacking scenarios including the removal of brakes, mileage modification and remote control of vehicle functions.
Logistics and the city
The city is the stage of two other testbeds. Aqualia, FCC and Rigual present a solution based on Microsoft and Teltonika Digital Twins, IoT and XR to empower smart city service providers by digitising vehicles used in cleaning services to address the global sustainability challenge and increase efficiency in resource consumption and service management. The mobility research hub CARNET has also chosen last mile logistics as the target of its ONA solution. An autonomous hub vehicle that works with smaller autonomous delivery devices and a remote back-end control centre that manages communications, collects data, optimises fleet operations and provides a fail-safe solution in complex situations.
The last logistic-focused testbed is Zariot’s SmartAxiom, a logistic management solution has Blockchain security directly embedded in the device and within the connectivity infrastructure, being a blockchain-secured solution from device to cloud.
Manufacturing, data and sanitation
The three last testbeds tackle different solutions in the manufacturing, energy and food and beverage industries. Deloitte will present a predictive maintenance solution that uses sensors to capture data to optimise the operation of a robot arm at a manufacturing plant. Data is also the core of the testbed selected from Engie focused on creating a Data Space based on open standards that enables data sharing along the energy supply chain. The last testbed included in the IOTSWC Testbed Area is an automatic solution by Evowater Technology Company to periodically sanitise beverage dispensers conducts and reusable bottles, while providing information of the consumption and properties of the beverage.
Cross industry alliance
Following the success of the first co-located edition of IOTSWC and ISE in 2022, the two events have decided to continue their co-location. At the first joint edition, the events explored the common ground between two different sets of disruptive technologies and the potential this offers to attendees and exhibitors. Thus, visitors will again be able to access the exhibition areas of both events at no additional cost, while IOTSWC delegates will receive a 50% discount if they wish to register for any of the ISE.
