Celebrations on the Ohmite stand

Ohmite isn’t just celebrating its 100th anniversary at electronica this year, it is showing a host of new products designed for the 21st century. The company’s 100 years of resistor technology, design, and manufacturing experience has culminated in both new products and new services.

Its huge range of industry favourite products have been extended to include the arrival of new ceramic composition products, new load banks and even customer specific designs in which Ohmite engineers supplied solutions to satisfy difficult resistance issues.

Ohmite’s involvement in current and rapidly changing issues such as renewable energy, healthcare, and electric vehicles, has led to the release of a number of new products since the last electronica.

Its new loadbanks, for instance, are now an integral part of everyday applications such as power generation, data centres, aerospace, wind farms, and battery discharge testing. Intended to accurately mimic the operational or ‘real’ load which a power source will see in actual application, Ohmite’s new range includes a desktop version designed for convenient operation. 

An important piece of load, electrical, mechanical, and voltage operation testing equipment that pulls all controls and systems into one unit, loadbanks feature high power resistors which convert electrical energy into heat, which then dissipates via air- or water-cooling systems. The energy generated is converted by a power source into heat, allowing the load bank to test the generator at 100% capacity. 

Ohmite will also be showing examples of how collusion with customers has led to the development of products which are produced specifically to address an individual problem. Visitors will see a PCB which, due to space and height restrictions, was formed using two thick film arced resistance paths printed directly onto a PCB to eliminate discrete component cost while reducing assembly time and improving reliability by minimising solder joints and creating ultra compact designs requiring less space.

Likewise, it will be showing a custom engineered, thick film heater assembly which integrates a compact stainless steel heating element with a four-pin connector featuring a ground and three distinct voltage inputs. This was designed to enable flexibility to serve different battery-operated forklifts while maintaining temperature in forklift mounted control boxes exposed to harsh, cold storage environments while ensuring quick disconnect capability for easy maintenance and replacement.
