Bringing healthy innovation to the dairy industry
Representatives from global water, energy and maintenance solutions provider, NCH Europe’s Waste Water and Water Treatment Innovation Platforms will be attending the Canadean Dairy Innovation Summit in April. Taking place in Amsterdam, the event aims to generate discussion among leaders in the sector about emerging trends and innovations.
During the two-day event, delegates will participate in a range of seminars and round table discussions on various topics, including EU reforms to milk quotas and indulgent versus healthy innovation. The NCH Europe team will be taking the opportunity to present the unique solutions it has to offer the sector to manage waste water and the treatment of water used in water cooling systems.
For instance, as European legionella legislation becomes increasingly stringent it’s vital that water cooling systems are treated with a product that can protect against an outbreak of the bacteria.
“Whether through evaporation or a leaking heat exchanger there is a risk that water from a cooling system could come into contact with people or produce,” said Brian Booth, VP, NCH Europe’s Water Treatment Innovation Platform. “If this water supply is contaminated with things like legionella this can have very serious consequences. To combat this and other issues in heating or cooling systems around the production plant, we have developed a range of innovative products that can keep dairy plants up and running safely and efficiently.”
Legislation is also tightening around waste water, driving up the cost of effluent disposal. Fees charged by utilities companies and local authorities across Europe for disposal of waste water into sewer systems are calculated based on considerations such as the concentration of organic chemicals and suspended solids in effluent.
“As dairy farms and plants battle to remain financially solvent in the face of increasing pressure from consumers for cheaper produce, hefty fees for waste water disposal can be very stressful,” said Mario Kelly, VP of NCH Europe’s Waste Water Innovation Platform. “All too often, farmers and plant managers across Europe are unaware that there are things they can do to reduce the amount they pay to dispose of effluent. By utilising safe and environmentally friendly technology onsite, such as the live bacteria dispensed by NCH Europe’s BioAmp systems, dairy companies can see dramatic savings.”
As well as discussing the healthy innovation NCH Europe has to offer the dairy sector, the company’s representatives will be leading a round table discussion to learn more about the key issues the sector is facing and how it can support its needs.
