Brexit, ROHS top bill at environmental conference
The leading conference on product environmental regulation for manufacturers, importers and distributors of electrical equipment will take place this year at the Hilton London Heathrow Airport on November 14-15 this year. Now in its 20th year, the Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the Environment Conference organised by RINA covers environmental regulation affecting the design, manufacture and disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.
Such regulation includes the likes of the EU Ecodesign, RoHS and WEEE Directives and the REACH Regulation and their international equivalents. The conference also covers responsible sourcing in the supply chains of the electronics and engineered goods sectors.
The opening topic on the first day will be Responsible Sourcing of Minerals with speakers from the European Commission, OECD and the European Partnership for Responsible Minerals.
European Substances Regulation and UK Market Surveillance will address REACH and ROHS regulations. Kerrill Grealy EU HSE Compliance Specialist at Meggitt will present on the company’s in-house strategies and experiences in sourcing data from suppliers.
Sounding the alert on Proposed additional RoHS substance restrictions will be Dr Paul Goodman, Principal Regulatory Consultant at RINA.
The conference will then move on to WEEE, Batteries and Radio Equipment Regulation a session featuring speakers from WEEElogic, RINA and techUK.
And on the second day a big topic to open.
It can only be Countdown to Brexit and Beyond.
Speakers, and brave souls, are Steve Brambley, Chief Executive of GAMBICA will address common benefit on trade issues for the UK and EU post-Brexit including the importance of regulatory and standards alignment for products and systems.
Dr Emily Lydgate Lecturer in Environmental Law - University of Sussex and Fellow - UK Trade Policy Observatory will speak on the place of product environmental regulation in future EU-UK trade relations.
Steve George, Chair of the REACH and Chemicals Working Group, ASD will present on REACH - regulatory uncertainty for downstream users.
UK Policy Insights is the topic which will be opened by Steve Andrews Deputy Head of the Resources & Waste Team - Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) bringing together a UK policy development and implementation round-up including updates on ROHS and WEEE.
Commodore Steve Pearson, Head Defence Maritime Regulator at the Defence Safety Authority will enlighten the audience on Defence and regulation - where the Defence Safety Authority fits and the Secretary of State’s policy.
Ecodesign and the Circular Economy will close the conference. Ourania Georgoutsakou, Secretary General - LightingEurope will discuss the circular economy from the perspective of the lighting industry and Marco Meloni, Research Analyst at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation will present on the Circular economy of electronics: an initial exploration.
