Automotive gate drive optocoupler saves space in EV/HEVs
PCIM 2021 Digital Days: The ACFJ-3530T is an automotive gate drive optocoupler which has all the components necessary for an isolated IGBT gate drive circuit, says Broadcom
The optocoupler integrates a flyback controller for isolated DC/DC converter, a high-current gate driver, Miller current clamping, IGBT desaturation over-current protection, supply under voltage lock-out protection and feedback and is supplied in a surface mount SO-24 package with 0.8mm pitch to save space in EV and HEV applications.
All of the company’s R2Coupler isolation products provide reinforced insulation to deliver signal isolation which is critical in automotive as well as high temperature industrial applications.
The automotive optocoupler smart gate driver is qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 1 Test Guidelines and has an operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C.
The integrated flyback controller has a regulated output supply voltage of 16V ±5% and also features a programmable negative supply. Minimal peak output current is -1.5A/+1.5A, with minimal Miller clamp sinking current is 2A. Propagation delay is 200ns (max).
The integrated IGBT protection includes de-sat over-current sensing, soft IGBT turnoff and fault feedback. There is also under-voltage lock-out protection with feedback.
Noise immunity is addressed with common mode rejection of 50kV/µs at VCM 1,500V and Miller current clamping, direct LED input with low input impedance and low noise sensitivity and negative gate bias.
The device is certified to UL1577, CSA and IEC 60747-5-5 and is suitable for IGBT/SiC MOSFET gate drivers for traction inverter, charger or HVAC applications.
