APEC celebrates its 40th anniversary

The Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC 2025), taking place from 16-20th March at the Georgia World Conference Centre in Atlanta, Georgia is billed as The Premier Event in Applied Power Electronics.

APEC is jointly sponsored by the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and PSMA, the multinational power electronics association.

APEC focuses on the practical and applied aspects of the power electronics business. This is not just a designer's conference. APEC has something of interest for anyone involved in power electronics for Equipment OEMs that use power supplies and DC/DC converters in their equipment, Designers of power supplies, DC/DC converters, motor drives, uninterruptable power supplies, inverters and any other power electronic circuits, equipment and systems, manufacturers and suppliers of components and assemblies used in power electronics, manufacturing, quality and test engineers involved with power electronics equipment, marketing, sales and anyone involved in the business of power electronics and for compliance engineers testing and qualifying power electronics equipment or equipment that use power electronics.

Since the start of APEC in 1985, where it started with 20 exhibitors, 34 technical papers in seven sessions and 6six professional education seminars and 250 attendees, it has grown to over 6,000 attendees, 750 technical presentations, 18 professional education seminars and over 300 exhibitors. 

The programme consists of the professional education seminars starting on Sunday which are a ‘must’ for those seeking a better in-depth understanding of a variety of power electronic topics. The Plenary Session on Monday afternoon will cover important power electronics topics by distinguished invited speakers followed by the can’t-miss Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall. On Tuesday through Thursday, over 750 presentations will be given in lecture and dialogue portions of the Technical Sessions and in the application-oriented Industry Sessions. The three Debate Sessions on Tuesday evening (formerly called Rap Sessions) will offer lively and entertaining interactive discussions on current hot topics. There will also be about 50 Exhibitor Presentations which will showcase the latest products and technologies from exhibiting companies.

Once again, this year, APEC will sponsor a MicroMouse event where participants design, build, and program robotic mice and compete to see who can navigate their way through the maze in the shortest time. Prizes are awarded to the top three performers. APEC will sponsor a FIRST Robotics event. Founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen, FIRST is a global nonprofit organisation that prepares young people for the future through a suite of life-changing youth robotics programs that build skills, confidence, and resilience. Both of these events are open to all APEC attendees.

The Wednesday evening social event will take place at the Georgia Aquarium, Oceans Ballroom. The event with include exclusive access the entire facility with special events, food and beverages in the ballroom. This event offers and exception opportunity to gathering with colleagues in a vibrant social setting.
