6th Discovering Start-Ups competition finalists announced

The 16 Discovering Start–Ups 2015 finalists announced recently will pitch their disruptive technologies and business plans to a panel of over 30 judges including angel investors, VCs and industry experts from the likes of Samsung, Qualcomm Ventures, MediaTek Labs, Deloitte, IBM, Telecom Italia and Google. The finals takes place in London on 21st October sponsored and hosted by Deloitte, the business advisory firm.

A total of 80 start-ups spanning seven countries including the UK, France, Italy, Sweden, Ukraine and the Netherlands entered the competition in its first year open to European companies. Competition organisers Cambridge Wireless and SETsquared narrowed the entrants down to 16 innovative start-ups. This year’s finalists are:

Thingful: A search engine for the IoT indexing across public data sources to allow users access to information on geographical location, data ownership and use of connected devices.

PurrMetrix: A product that utilises simplistic and affordable sensors to monitor heating, ventilation and air conditioning performance.

Sensory Media: An intelligent lighting system that projects music to lighting, creating ambient experiences at a lower cost.

Crypta Labs: Developing a quantum Random Number Generator capable of being installed on all mobile devices including mobile phones, tablets, smart-watches and IoT products.

RFMOD: Showcasing BeanIoT, a multi-sensor, system-configurable, IoT hardware platform adaptable to a variety of markets including smart homes, asset tracking, health monitoring and agritech. 

1248: A device manager that reduces the operational costs of scaling up connected devices.

Gene Adviser: A flexible, powerful online marketplace for genetic testing, giving patients and doctors access to genetic testing from leading laboratories across Europe and Worldwide.

ZapToBuy: A software and app combo that allows consumers to easily call up product information and purchase items they see on screen.

GiveVision: A sophisticated software suite that powers smart glasses to be used as eyes for blind people.

Notifyed: A secure one-way group messaging app for teachers to students and parents.

Nwave Technologies: Enabling IoT devices to transmit real–time data over distances of 10km in urban environments using extremely low power and operating off a single battery for several years.

Undo Software: A reversible debugger to find the root cause of bugs, allowing developers to see everything a program has done including every memory access and every instruction executed.

Ubitech: Innovative technology that provides self-organised wireless device communication protocols that have the ability of cognition.

Cyberlytic: Software product using machine learning and adaptive rules to provide real–time risk assessment of cyber-attacks.

Senseye: Advanced predictive analytics and machine learning, bringing companies the benefits of condition based maintenance in an easy-to-use way.

Converge: Building low power connected sensor networks for use on construction sites and detecting anomalies on machinery in manufacturing plants.

These are areas of the marketplace where innovation and disruption are in abundance,” says Simon Bond, Innovation Director, SetSquared. “We had a huge pool of talent and ideas to choose from with the 2015 start-up entrants from across the UK and overseas, which is a testament to the strength of these 16 exceptional start-ups.”
