Aegros recognised in 2022 SXSW Innovation Awards
Aegros: Powered by JoinXR’ – a clinical patient simulation for Extended Reality (XR) developed by Fracture Reality and Orion Immersive – has been selected as a finalist for the 24th annual SXSW Innovation Awards, taking place on Monday, March 14th at 6pm CT, during the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference and Festivals.
The awards recognise and celebrate the most exciting tech developments in the connected world, and Aegros has been chosen as one of five finalists in the AR, VR & MR category, selected by a panel of industry leaders and experts from hundreds of applications. The Aegros project is a clinical mental health training simulation commissioned by Health Education England (HEE), the UK government agency responsible for training in the UK National Health Service. Aegros – powered by Fracture Reality’s JoinXR platform – truly pushes the boundaries of immersive learning, creating real-world experiences with digital avatars that naturally interact with users in AR and VR. Designed by Orion Immersive to address a shortage of onsite clinical placements available to trainee doctors and nurses, Aegros offers an unprecedented level of realism, transforming interactions with digital avatars into natural, free flowing conversations.
“It’s been incredibly exciting working with HEE’s experts to completely transform how they use technology to train medical professionals,” said Mark Knowles-Lee, CEO of Fracture Reality. “This project has allowed us to combine our cutting edge AR/VR technology with the leading educational expertise to pioneer entirely new approaches to training.”
Mark Christian, CEO of Orion Immersive, added: “The exciting thing is that we have broken new ground in clinical simulation, enabling real-to-life patient consultations with virtual avatars. The potential applications of this technology for teaching and learning are huge, and being selected as a finalist for the SXSW Innovation Awards is a clear indication that our approach is both novel and worthy of further development.”
