Electronic Specifier announces the release of a new technical article: ‘Graphene: a deep dive into its properties, production, and applications

Graphene has captivated researchers and industries alike due to its remarkable strength, flexibility, and conductive properties. It is a term that has popped up numerous times over the years that I have been with Electronic Specifier. And, whilst I’ve always recognised it as a versatile material that is set to change numerous industries, I’m not sure, until now, that I fully appreciated just how vast its uses and applications are.

Graphene has been extensively researched since its discovery and has even earned the moniker of 'wonder material'because of its unique combination of properties. It is this very versatility that intrigued me. How can a material be all things?

Yet, despite all of its promise, widespread adoption remains stunted and focus has shifted from ‘what can graphene do?’ to ‘how can large areas of high-quality graphene be mass produced in at a cost-effective rate?’

In this article, I take a look at what graphene is, the expectations of the material, the challenges in cost and scalability, and the considerations in ensuring its standardisation across industries, as well as a successful scalable case study.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chirag Ratwani, Graphene Technical Specialist and The Graphene Council, for his expertise;. The Graphene Council for agreeing to use of their images; and Marco Caffio, Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at iGii for allowing me to use them as a case study for this article.

You can find the technical article here.
