There were a lot of product awards passed out last week at embedded world, but one of the hottest solutions at the event was the new multi-touch platform created by Presagis, CoreAVI, and Wind River.

This multi-touch demonstration is a control and visualisation environment for a control station and shows what the vehicle operator sees and controls during flight operations. This entire solution stack is based upon commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) software and hardware components and is ready for high levels of RTCA DO-178C, EUROCAE ED-12C, IEC 61508, ISO 26262 safety certification.

The platform brings the utility of IOS or Android platforms to critical industrial systems. This can be used for any type of situational awareness, business visualisation, mission control, or other touch-screen-based visual control and management application. This COTS platform transcends traditional push-button control environments by allowing control by advanced multi-touch screen gestures like drag, flick and pinch, tap, double-tap, swipe, rotate, and more to be used safety-critical or mission-critical systems.

The demo for this platform is patterned after a ground control station for a UAV. The touch screen allows the operator to control all the functions of the UAV, and to bring into his central viewing area the different panels which show views of various sensors, such as an electro-optical camera, an infra-red display, mission video, and radar. This platform also makes use of a digital map to navigate the UAV’s course, and to control the field of view of the sensor packages.

This is a joint solution created CoreAVI, Presagis, and Wind River is based upon Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products:

  • The application code was automatically generated by Presagis VAPS XT tool, along with its embeddable gesture recognition and animation support.
  • The OpenGL graphics infrastructure were provided by CoreAVI’s ArgusCore SC Safety Certifiable OpenGL SC 1.0.1 graphics suite
  • The OS foundation was provided by VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS) with Virtualisation Profile
  • The hardware platform consists of the Intel Xeon D core processor coupled with a discrete AMD Embedded Radeon E8860 GPU

Presagis, CoreAVI, and Wind River demonstrated this joint solution at Embedded World 2017 in Nuremburg, Germany and also at AUSA Global Force Symposium 2017 in Huntsville, AL USA during the week of 13th March.

In addition this solution will be demonstrated at the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) sponsored by the US Air Force in Dayton, OH on 28th March, 2017.
