NXP's i.MX 94 Applications Processor has been shortlisted for the Electronics Excellence Awards under the Electromechnical Product category.

The i.MX 94 family of applications processors addresses the growing complexity of industrial and automotive connectivity. In industrial environments, there is a need for efficient real-time communication and control, which is becoming increasingly complex due to the variety of communication protocols used.

In the automotive sector, the shift towards software-defined vehicles has increased the reliance on Ethernet-based communications. The i.MX 94 family helps simplify this complexity by integrating communications, safety, and real-time control features into a single SoC. Additionally, the i.MX 94 family addresses the need for advanced security in both industrial and automotive applications.

The i.MX 94 family addresses the need for advanced security in both industrial and automotive applications. It is NXP’s first applications processor to integrate post-quantum cryptography (PQC), providing robust protection against quantum computer attacks. The integrated EdgeLock Secure Enclave and EdgeLock Accelerator ensure secure communications and protect against cyber threats. Additionally, the i.MX 94 family also features an integrated NXP eIQ Neutron Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which supports AI applications such as defect scanning, machine diagnostics, and real-time operator guidance, thereby reducing unplanned downtime cost.

The i.MX 94 family is NXP's first to integrate PQC support and cyber attack recovery capabilities in the EdgeLock Secure Enclave, as well as the first integrated EdgeLock Accelerator (Prime and V2X) for low-latency authentication and encryption on TSN and V2X networks. The EdgeLock Secure Enclave, physically isolated from the rest of the SoC, enhances protection of critical security functions such as secure boot, debug, update, device authentication, secure connections and data protection. It also enables new capabilities for managing security over the device lifecycle like secure remote key and device attestation at boot and run-time.
