QPT has announced the appointment of Rupert Baines as its CEO, effective from 1 April 2024. Baines brings a wealth of experience from the semiconductor industry, having held C-level positions, including Chief Executive Officer at UltraSoC (acquired by Siemens) and Chief Marketing Officer at Codasip.

Rob Gwynne, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of QPT, commented, “Since January 2022, Rupert has played a key advisory role for QPT, providing invaluable support. We are now at an exciting juncture with our first prototypes, gaining customer interest, and embarking on a funding round on Crowdcube. Rupert’s leadership will be pivotal in driving our future growth.”

Rupert Baines expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Over the past two years, I have been closely involved with QPT as an advisor and am thrilled to take on the CEO role. The potential scale of what we are addressing is truly exhilarating. Electric motors consume up to 45% of global electricity, a figure that’s growing in our journey towards net zero. Yet, many motors currently in use are inefficient. QPT’s qGaN technology aims to revolutionise this by enhancing motor efficiency, thereby reducing power consumption

and carbon dioxide emissions. I am particularly proud to have recently accepted the ABB ‘Power Density Start-up Challenge 2023 for Motor Drive Products’ award on behalf of QPT.”

QPT is committed to enhancing global energy efficiency with its cutting-edge motor drives and inverters. These are based on the latest GaN transistors and controlled by QPT’s innovative qGaN technology. According to QPT's research, their solutions are more energy-efficient, compact, and cooler compared to those using traditional Silicon transistors or SiC, marking a significant advancement in the field.
