Laser Components names new managing director
In January 2021, Dr Raj Chakraborty took over management of the LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group from Dragan Grubisic, who has retired from day-to-day operations after 17 years at the helm but will remain available to the company for development projects.
As Operations Manager, Chakraborty had been working closely with his predecessor since 2018. In this capacity he has been managing the day-to-day activities of the production and engineering teams and has expanded the core competencies of the team along with the headcount from 27 employees to 40. He has over 24 years of experience in the semiconductor industry working at various Fortune 500 U.S. companies in engineering, production, and senior management roles.
As an expert in lean manufacturing, he was instrumental in planning the new company building in Chandler, Arizona, which was completed at the end of 2020. Optimised production processes and a spacious floor plan provide the foundation for additional manufacturing capacity and future growth of the site. He sees himself as a team player: “Good cooperation between all divisions is the be-all and end-all for the success of a company. You can win a single match with talent and intelligence, but you can only take home the gold in a championship with good teamwork.”
Raj Chakraborty succeeded Dragan Grubisic, who led LASER COMPONENTS Detector Group since its founding in 2004 as managing director. His expertise in detector development played a key role in the expansion of the product portfolio and the continuous growth of the company. Under his leadership, the Detector Group grew from a small manufacturing site with only a few employees to one of the most important success stories of the LASER COMPONENTS Group.
