Alina Timofeeva appointed to British Computer Society Board
Alina Timofeeva is currently a Board Member for the British Computer Society and a strategic advisor to the C-suite of major financial services organisations. She helps these organisations leverage data, technology, and innovation to achieve their business ambitions safely and cost-effectively.
Timofeeva is a multi-award-winning expert on digital transformation and innovation, focusing on cloud computing, data, and risk management, expertise that make her a sought-after speaker at major industry events. Previously, she worked as a Principal in Digital Practice for Oliver Wyman, a management consulting firm. During her tenure at Oliver Wyman, she won several awards and was named Most Inspirational Individual of the Year by the UK IT Industry Awards, Digital Leader of the Year by the Women in Tech Excellence Awards, and both Digital Transformation Leader and Rising Star by the Diversity in Tech Awards.
Before joining Oliver Wyman, Alina worked with leading consulting firms KPMG and Accenture, where she was promoted four times in four years – a significant achievement in the male-dominated tech industry. During her time with KPMG, she won four industry awards, including Cloud Professional of the Year and Digital Person of the Year.
Alina overcame poverty and limited opportunities, transforming from a girl with no parents, no money, and no prospects into a successful multi-award-winning businesswoman. She is now a keen supporter of women and immigrants, empowering them through mentoring, talks, and podcasts. She shares her key motto: failure is an opportunity to grow and take action.
She is well known for her TED talk ‘Fail but Never Give Up,’ which has over 510,000 unique viewers, was translated into 23 languages, and became one of the top 10 most-watched TEDx talks released in December 2021. The talk illustrates how failing an exam for a fast-food chain led to her earning three university degrees, achieving career success, and becoming a role model for women in technology.
Alina has spoken on data and technology topics on TV and at major industry events, including the World Economic Forum, London Tech Week, Money 20/20, Banking Transformation Summit, Cloud Europe Expo, and Digital Transformation Expo. She has also spoken at universities such as the University of Oxford, London School of Economics, Imperial College London, and SOAS University of London. Additionally, she has served as a judge for various awards celebrating talent in the data and technology industry, including the UK IT Industry Awards and the Women in Tech Excellence Awards.
As a TEDx speaker and LinkedIn Top Voice in Technology, she aims to inspire 50 million people globally to see failure as an opportunity to grow, whether in technology or in their personal journeys.
