You don’t have to miss a thing

We’ve all experienced the rather annoying and frustrating scenario of nodding off in front of the television, therefore missing the end of the movie or football match. Some of us may even remember being rudely awakened in the wee hours of the morning by the dulcet tones of the national anthem signalling the end of the night’s programming.

However, thankfully those days could well be over thanks to the new Netflix Socks that, as well as keeping your feet warm, will detect when you’ve drifted off to sleep and promptly pause the programme to ensure nothing is missed.

A number of built-in highly sensitive accelerometers fitted into the socks are able to detect a reduction in movement and will then send a signal to the TV to pause the current show. Netflix claim that the sensors are capable of detecting whether someone has in fact fallen asleep or whether they are just laying motionless on the sofa watching TV. However, an LED in the sock’s cuff will also flash to let you know Netflix is about to be paused, so you can simply move your leg to keep on watching uninterrupted.

Although not available in shops, the socks are part of Netflix’s ‘Make It’ scheme, a programme that aims to enhance the Netflix experience through innovation and invention. Netflix has also released plans for the socks online so, should anyone be adept at sewing and coding, they can actually make their own pair!
