USB charge and sync device simplifies software updates
A network-attachable USB charge and sync device that allows multiple USB devices to connect with an Ethernet network, simplifying remote software and firmware updates has been introduced by Saelig. The Cambrionix EtherSync is available with multiple USB ports which can be used with all types of USB-based peripheral devices, tablets, and smartphones.
Each of the USB ports can simultaneously provide correct charging currents of up to 2.1A, as well as USB 2.0 high-speed (480Mbps) syncing of multiple device types - irrespective of manufacturer.
The device enables a host computer to remotely access USB ports to charge and sync USB devices in different locations from one central controller.
This enables remote management of devices, saving time from visiting each location to perform OS or security updates, or from physically moving them all to one location to change content. Instead of using expensive and vulnerable laptops to manage devices, EtherSync allows remote connection from almost anywhere.
Multiple units can also be used for large scale deployments such as those in retail stores. For even more capability, dual GigaBit Ethernet ports allow easy daisy-chaining of EtherSync units without requiring an additional hub or network port.
Using Ethernet to manage remote USB devices allows easier configuration and is less prone to hacking compared with using a WiFi connection.
EtherSync provides full-rate charging, fast data transfer over GigaBit Ethernet, and a built-in two-port Gigabit Ethernet switch. Each device provides up to 8 USB ports that can be accessed via Ethernet cabling running standard TCP/IP protocols.
With the supplied Cambrionix EtherSync connector software, the remote USB ports can appear on a computer as if they are local to that machine, even though the actual product may be in a different building, city or country. Tablets, ChromeBooks, mobile phones, MP3 players, e-readers, 3D Glasses, or a mix of them can all be connected.
The pre-programmed Very Intelligent Charging protocol will ensure the correct charging profile for the specific product is used, maintaining battery performance and extending battery life without risking damage to expensive high-tech products.Equally at home in Mac or Windows environments, the EtherSync is ideal for use in schools, universities, equipment dealers, and manufacturers to help efficiently keep all USB-based products updated to the same software revision.
Defence, security and wearable camera companies who wish to offer a large scale charging and data transfer product can add this to complement their product offerings.
Software and app designers who are challenged when testing the connectivity of new and existing hardware devices across all supported operating systems will benefit from using the EtherSync.
It allows test engineers to programmatically control the connection state of each hardware device during automated tests, and can greatly improve evaluation procedures.EtherSync comes as either a fully-enclosed unit or as a component board with 8 USB ports. It is designed and manufactured by Cambridge, UK-based Cambrionix.
