Texas Instruments is a Contributing Sponsor for the 2007 Solar Decathlon, which is put on by the United States Department of Energy. The bi-annual event brings together 20 university and college teams from around the globe in a competition to design, build and operate the most attractive, energy-efficient solar-powered homes. The teams come together to form a “solar village” on the National Mall in Washington D.C. The Decathlon’s goal is to engage young innovators to advance solar technology and reduce the cost of solar-powered homes. Many teams competing in the Decathlon are using Texas Instruments technology – which helps solar inverters achieve maximum system efficiency and cost-effectiveness – in their designs.
As the only semiconductor company sponsoring the event, TI will donate hundreds of hours of employee volunteer time and will provide support for the official Decathlon photographer. In addition, TI will host a sustainability workshop for consumers, as well as a breakfast for competing students.

The Solar Decathlon will run October 12 – 20, and team houses will be open for public tours during specified hours. On October 17 at 1:00 p.m., TI’s Sustainable Development Manager, Paul Westbrook, will present a workshop in the Main Tent that will focus on sustainability at home and in the office.

The event takes place on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
