TELEHOUSE America announces that its public peering interconnection point, New York International Internet Exchange, has exceeded the 200Gbps (gigabits per second) max traffic volume threshold. In April 2011, TELEHOUSE announced they had reached the 100 gigabit milestone, which meant traffic had doubled in less than 18 short months. Now it has doubled again in less than a year. Currently, NYIIX is the biggest public Internet exchange in the New York Metro Market. It is also in the top 10 of the world’s largest peering points.
Established in 1996, NYIIX has quickly become the most popular neutral exchange point in New York, consisting of 146 active peering members from all over the world. It is one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points on the United States’ east coast and is owned and operated by TELEHOUSE America. This increase in traffic demonstrates TELEHOUSE’s ability to attract both large ISP’s to the exchange and showcases the huge benefits of peering to smaller companies looking to reduce costs.
NYIIX’s main goal is to provide the Internet community with a neutral, scalable peering infrastructure and to assure reliable and robust Internet connectivity. With plans to invest in redundant infrastructure and expand access in other local carrier hotels, NYIIX provides 1G and 10G connections in the following:

• 111 8th Avenue
• TELEHOUSE New York Broadway,
• TELEHOUSE New York Teleport on Staten Island
• TELEHOUSE New York Chelsea located on 85 10th Avenue
• 60 Hudson St

NYIIX offers public peering as well as private peering over VLAN. This enables independent networks to exchange internet traffic to complement and supplement public or paid bandwidth networks. By peering with TELEHOUSE, customers interconnect over a layer-2 switch to many ISPs, content and application providers, at numerous locations, providing a more cost effective and improved network performance solution.

“NYIIX is one of the most exciting services offered by TELEHOUSE. We are delighted to announce such a huge success,” says Akio Sugeno, Vice President of Internet Engineering, Operations, and Business Development. “Achieving 200 gigabits per second is no small accomplishment, and it further proves that NYIIX is one of the most significant IXP’s in the United States. As we move into 2012, we will continue to expand NYIIX’s presence in the New York Metro Market and make further investment in the infrastructure to support the needs of our members.”

The NYIIX platform is regularly updated in order to accommodate new trends and technology requirements. TELEHOUSE is looking forward to announcing new updates in Q1 of 2012.
