Smart-Card Interface from Maxim Offers typical 10nA Stop-Mode Current
Maxim has introduced the DS8023, a low-power, low-cost, single smart-card interface. A complete interface for smart-card communication, this device performs level translation between a host microcontroller and a 5V, 3V, or 1.8V smart card. The DS8023 offers the industry's lowest power stop mode, which reduces current draw to a mere 10nA while the card is inactive. This low-power stop mode can significantly extend battery life in portable applications such as wireless POS terminals.
AddiThe DS8023 is designed to be a replacement upgrade for parts with higher power consumption and no stop mode, such as the TDA8024 and the ST8024. Most applications can switch from these parts to the DS8023 with little or no change to their existing hardware; users only need to modify their software if they want to support the low-power stop mode.
The DS8023 is available in a lead-free, 28-pin SO package or 28-pin TSSOP package, and is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended industrial temperature range. Prices start at $0.67 (1000-up, FOB USA).
