The upturn of the economic situation in sensor, measuring, and testing technology as well as the economic strength and spirit of innovation in this industry were impressively reflected by the lively course of this year’s SENSOR+TEST exhibition. A total of 509 exhibitors showed their novelties and interesting applications on 16,000 m². With about 7,400 visitors, the figures of the previous year were significantly exceeded and almost reached numbers of 2008.
The exhibitors at the SENSOR+TEST were generally satisfied with the fair. Alexander Koprian of Endress+Hauser GmbH + Co. KG, for instance, stated that “The SENSOR+TEST is one of the few trade fairs where we see our OEM customers for our sensor technology. We’re satisfied with the fair and definitely had an increase compared with 2009.”

The special “Energy Efficiency” forum and the corresponding events at the exhibitor forum demonstrated the importance of this topic for the future. “The ‘Energy Efficiency’ community stand deals in our opinion with a very important subject,” stated Edgar Riesinger from EMV Testhaus GmbH. “However, our experience shows that the interest of the industry is still limited. Nevertheless, we’re convinced that this subject will continue to gain in importance in the future, and that’s why we decided to participate in the community stand.”

Many visitors were attracted by the exhibitor forums, where they were offered a comprehensive programme with presentations and panel discussions. Especially lectures on the topic of energy efficiency and the career coaching – offered for the first time – were well visited.

A total of 14 companies participated at the specially promoted community stand “Young Innovative Enterprises” – offered this year for the third time at the SENSOR+TEST – which is also a sign of the innovative strength of the sensor industry. Jürgen Beck, CEO of Beck Messtechnik, who exhibited for the second time at the community stand said, “For us test-bed manufacturers, the SENSOR+TEST is of interest because here it’s possible to acquire new customers. We’re very satisfied with the number of visitors and saw a significant increase from the previous year. We had the impression that the demand was much more specific and so we hope to gain concrete projects in the weeks after the fair.”

The AMA Association for Sensor Technology presented its 10,000 Euro SENSOR Innovation Award this year for a joint development project of the CiS Forschungs- institut für Mikrosensorik und Photovoltaik GmbH, Erfurt, Audia Akustik GmbH, Sömmerda and the Helmholtz-Institut für Biomedizinische Technik of RWTH Aachen. Dr. Olaf Brodersen from the CiS Forschungsinstitut für Mikrosensorik und Photovoltaik GmbH was glad to have won the award: “To receive the SENSOR Innovation Award is of course the absolute highlight of the fair for us. The SENSOR+TEST is the main trade fair for us in any case. It’s here where we meet our partners with whom we carry out joint development projects. We also participate at the parallel conference every year with at least one paper. We are convinced that the importance of the fair is also due to the conferences.“

The Informationstechnische Gesellschaft of the VDE (ITG), the organisers of the “Sensors and Measuring Systems” conference, held for the first time this year jointly with the SENSOR+TEST, were also quite satisfied. Professor Leonhard Reindl, University of Freiburg, who chaired the conference with Professor Reimund Gerhard, University of Potsdam, said, “We feel at home here with our conference. The entire atmosphere is very pleasant and the AMA gave us optimal support in our preparations for the conference. With 270 registrations this year we set a new record of participant figures. I heard from a number of participants that they consider it positive that the conference this year was held parallel to the SENSOR+TEST.”

Next year the SENSOR+TEST will be held from the 7th to the 9th of June, 2011, at the Nürnberg Exhibition Centre. On the programme parallel to the trade fair will again be the SENSOR+TEST conferences of the AMA Association – the SENSOR, OPTO, and IRS2. The focal topic of next year’s fair will be “Ease to Use”, which concentrates on usability and user friendliness of sensors and measuring systems
