RedMere - Self Powered Active Booster Modules for Standard and Mini DisplayPort 1.1 and 1.2 cable applications

RedMere, a leading supplier of smart active cable solutions, has announced the introduction of the first active DisplayPort 1.1 and 1.2 self powered booster modules for standard and mini DisplayPort cable applications. The booster module PRA2600 has been designed for Ultra Thin DisplayPort 1.1 cable applications and can support data rates of up to 10.8GBps. The 21.6Gbps booster module PRA2700 for DisplayPort 1.2 Ultra Thin cable applications future proofs beyond 3D-HD applications, such as multiple HD monitors, from a single source DP connector.
DisplayPort is a revolutionary display interface designed specifically for high performance graphics and flat panel displays. DisplayPort offers high speed connectivity between PC and mobile computing devices to multiple displays and projectors, guaranteeing the highest video resolutions and color depths. This makes it the perfect standard for 3D digital imaging, medical imaging, and gaming and it enhances the workstation environment. It enables a true plug and play digital projector experience with the laptop or notebook. However, typical DisplayPort cables on the market today are heavy, thick and cumbersome compared to the portable devices they service like the laptop, tablet or netbook. RedMere’s smart active DisplayPort technology means that the cables can become significantly longer, lighter and thinner than the traditional passive equivalent, so much so that they can fit effortlessly into a laptop or netbook carry case, as well as reducing clutter on the desk space.

Powered by RedMere’s technology the 10.8Gbps DisplayPort 1.1 PRA2600 self powered booster module can support the deepest color depths and highest resolution and update rates. The RedMere enabled smart DisplayPort cable removes the need for additional USB or audio-line out cables. The cable is self-powered using RedMere’s proprietary energy harvesting technology and no external power supply is needed. RedMere enabled DisplayPort 1.1 cable technology will allow the cable to become thinner and also significantly longer, three times the length of Standard and Mini DisplayPort 1.1 cables on the market today. The reduced form factor of the RedMere enabled DisplayPort 1.1 cables and the fact that they are available with both Mini DisplayPort and Standard DisplayPort connectors means that the cables can be used at home or on the move with the current ultra thin portable computer devices such as notebooks, tablet PCs or netbooks.

The top of the line PRA2700 booster module for Super High Speed DisplayPort 1.2 cables will ideally cater for data intensive, very high speed business and consumer applications. The 21.6Gbps PRA2700 supports DisplayPort’s unique micro-packet architecture which allows multiple high definition monitors to be connected over a single line. The capability to connect to multiple monitors has huge advantages in gaming and entertainment applications as well as in the workplace. It creates a visually immersive 3D gaming or entertainment experience, while in the work environment the most obvious advantage is the increased productivity that multiple displays allow. RedMere’s PRA2700 will be also available with a Mini DisplayPort connector, perfect for facilitating connectivity with high-end Mini DisplayPort enabled applications. With the PRA2700 booster module a cable can reach triple the length of standard and Mini DisplayPort 1.2 cables currently available while guaranteeing optimum output.
