Premier Farnell plc announced that it has been accepted as a member of the European Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The accolade provides recognition of the success of the company’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, its enhanced Trust Agenda, and the importance it places on environmental performance across its global operations.
Initiated in 2010, the European DJSI benchmarks and recognises European companies that meet the high sustainability standards of the US-based Dow Jones Sustainability Index. In the assessment, Premier Farnell achieved high scores for its environmental performance and reporting; which includes energy efficiency enhancements taking place across its facilities worldwide. Scores achieved in almost all other areas were significantly above the sector averages. Analysis of the three areas – planet, people and principles - of the company’s sustainability programme helped confirm Premier Farnell’s position as one of the leading companies in the European Index for its industry sector.

This accolade follows Premier Farnell being cited as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies for 2011 on the 5th annual list released by the Ethisphere Institute, a New York think tank, earlier this year.

“Sustainability is a key part of our business strategy, with the Trust Agenda playing a significant role in ensuring the long-term success of our business in a rapidly changing world,” said Steven Webb, Company Secretary, Premier Farnell. “ Being recognised by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is an important achievement and provides us with a new way to communicate our leading sustainability performance to US and international customers and investors, who are often more familiar with this ranking than with our UK accolades.”
