Carlo Gavazzi has introduced a new through-beam sensor designed to provide industrial levels of performance with the style and competitive pricing of devices destined for the consumer markets. The new PD98 sensor meets all the latest standards for industrial doors and incorporates specific functions for European door safety standards EN12978, EN12445 and EN12453.

The compact size of the outdoor sensor allows easy on-wall-mounting, eliminating the need to build sensors into the wall. It is stylish as well as easy-to-use and no sensitivity adjustments are necessary. A new spherical lens is superior to previous designs based on internal parabolic reflectors, since it eradicates problems caused by dust and corrosion.

With a ±5 degree optical sensing angle, the PD98 uses modulated infrared light in the 880nm band to provide operating range up to 20m. Safety is enhanced by providing the emitter unit with a built-in test input, which mutes the emitter allowing sensor function to be evaluated. Testing is activated by the door controller.

Also built in is a synchronisation feature, which eliminates crosstalk and enables high neighbour immunity to be achieved.

The sensor works with a 12-24V AC/DC power-supply, requiring less than 20mA in operation. Output is via a 1A load SPDT relay, with LED indication. It is housed in polycarbonate for maximum lifetime and outstanding impact strength, and the housing provides IP54 protection against water splashes.
